The first meeting of SSK was held on 9-6-2010 Wednesday in the multimedia theater.Anjitha Venugopal welcomed the gathering. There were three technical presentations by students. Jithu Prince and Mathew K Vaidyan of standard 8 introduced ‘Imagemagick, a command line image editing software. Sidharth, Appu, Shalu, Athira and Shelmi explained how GUIDO VAN ROBOT can be used for learning the logic behind programming. Abhinav and Manu presented Malayalam computing and subtitling of foreign films. Mr.M. Balakrishna Pillai of S B T Gudalloor was the chief guest. Mr. Jay Jacob( ILUG-COCHIN), Samir Thahir, Sooraj Kenoth, M R Sanalkumar and Thomas Yoyaku also spoke on the occassion.

PTA President fixes the protection mesh guard
The ‘world environment day’ was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the school. Asst.manager of ‘Hotel Hillpalace’ delivered the message. Trees were planted by the side of the ’sea port-air port’ road and in the school premises. A project for protecting the trees with metal mesh guards sponsored by Hotel Hill Palace has been declared by the chief guest. Distribution of trees under ‘ENTE MARAM’ project was also done on the same day.

മാനേജരും പഞ്ചായത്ത് പ്രസിഡന്റും നവാഗതരെ സ്വീകരിക്കുന്നു
പുതിയ അധ്യയന വര്ഷത്തില് സ്ക്കൂളിലെത്തിയ എല്ലാ കുട്ടികളെയും സ്വാഗതം ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ട് പ്രവേശനോല്സവം നടത്തി. പഞ്ചായത്ത് പ്രസിഡന്റ് ഇ. വി
തങ്കപ്പന് മുഖ്യാതിഥി ആയിരുന്നു. നവാഗതരെ താലപ്പൊലിയേന്തിയ പെണ്കുട്ടികള് കുരവയിട്ട് സ്വീകരിച്ചു. തുടര്ന്ന് നടന്ന സമ്മേളനം പഞ്ചായത്ത് പ്രസിഡന്റ് ഉത്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു. കുട്ടികള് സ്വാഗതഗാനം പാടി. മാനേജര് എം ഐ. ആന്ഡ്രൂസ്, പ്രിന്സിപ്പാള് വി.എ. തമ്പി, പി.ടിഎ പ്രസിഡന്റ് ചന്ദ്രന് കുന്നപ്പള്ളി എന്നിവര് സംസാരിച്ചു. പഞ്ചായത്തിന്റെ ആഭിമുഖ്യത്തിലുള്ള ലഡു വിതരണം നടത്തി. അധ്യാപകനായ തോമസ് നന്ദി പറഞ്ഞു.

discussion on IT enabled education
As part of the International seminar on Public software conducted at Le Meridian, Kochi, from 27th to 29th May 2010, a team of the delegates from UNESCO, SAARC countries and the different states of India visited VHSS IRIMPANAM on 27th May 2010. It is purely counting on the Free Software based activities conducted by the school, that our school has been selected for evaluating the implementation of ICT based education in the schools of Kerala. The team arrived at the school at 9.30 AM. They were welcomed with ‘thalappoli’ and ‘kurava’. IT joint co-ordinator Snalkumar welcomed the delegates. IT cordinator Thomas Yoyaku explained about the commendable activities done in the school. School manager and Principal also spoke on the occation. The delegates had an interaction with IT@School authorities also. They visited the computer lab and witnessed the activities demonstrated to them. An ICT based demonstration class in science is also shown to them. All the delegates appreciated the activities done by the school. A computer assembling demonstration by 7th standard students , the school website. tuxpaint localization. malayalam computing, sub-titling of films etc were some of the activities that were commented ‘remarkable’ by the delegates. The delegates left the school after a delicious lunch.

ഒരു ഗ്രാമത്തില് ഒരു അപ്പുപ്പനും അമ്മുമ്മയും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.അവരുടെ വീട്ടുമുറ്റത്ത് ഒരു വലിയ പേരമരം
ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.എന്നാല്, ഒരു പേരക്ക പോലും ഇവര്ക്ക് കിട്ടാറില്ല.ഇത് ആരാണ് കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നതെന്നും
അറിയില്ല.
ഒരു ദിവസം അവര് ഒരു പഴുത്ത പേരക്ക കണ്ടു അവര് അടുത്ത ദിവസം അത് പറയ്ക്കാന് തീരുമാനിച്ചു.
പിറ്റേന്ന് അവര് നോക്കുമ്പോള് അത് അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.അന്ന് രാത്രി ഇരുവരുംഉറക്കം അളച്ച് വീ
ട്ടു മുറ്റത്ത് ഇരുന്നു,ആരാണ് തങ്ങളുടെ പേരക്കകള് മോഷ്ടിക്കുതെന്നറിയാന്.അവര് കള്ളനെ കണ്ടുപിടിച്ചു.

അവര് മയങ്ങാന് കിടന്നു.

SWATHANTHRA SOFTWARE SANGAMAM, 3rd Edition

VHSS Irimipanam in assosciation with Indian Libre User Group (formerly Indian Linux User Group), Kochi is proud to present the third edition (second consecutive year) of the Swathanthra Software Sangamam. This event brings together the Free Software community,teachers and students to engage all in 5 days of Knowledge sharing programmes(workshops, seminars). The focus of the five day program is the localisation of Tuxpaint, the 2D drawing application.
The students try their hand at attempting to translate the interface of the popular Free Software drawing program Tuxpaint to Malayalam. The students have decided to undertake this task after being Motivated and inspired from their previous successful attempt at making stamps of indian flowers and fruits and integrating it into the application (images, text and voice). The changes were mailed to Bill Kendrick, the founder and lead developer of Tuxpaint in USA and it was he who suggested on localising Tuxpaint and giving it a Malayalam Interface. The contribution (stamps) of the students is expected to be included in the next official release of Tuxpaint.
Another significance of the Event is the fact that few topics covered during the classes, will be handled by children themselves. Students who have almost completed the vacation course at the Free Learning Institute, Palarivattom (www.freelearninginstitute.wordpress.com) will join the elders to handle topics they have learned themselves. Indeed Free Software will bring a dramatic change to build a self sustaining community.
The Introduction of Free Software in Schools has brought about a revolution that builds upon the social framework of Kerala a community of teachers and students who are able to think independently and devise solutions for the better of the society.

- Make them understand the functioning of a machine through the command line interface.
- Explain concepts of Programming through Guido Van Robot

ഇരുമ്പനം ദേശത്തെയാകെ ദു:ഖത്തിലാഴ്ത്തിക്കൊണ്ട് സ്കൂളിലെ ഏഴാം ക്ലാസ്സ് വിദ്യാര്ത്ഥിയായ അനന്തു നാരായണന് ചിത്രപ്പുഴ തുരുത്തുമന കടവില് മുങ്ങി മരിച്ചു. മാര്ച്ച് 3- ന് വൈകിട്ട് കൂട്ടുകാരോടൊപ്പം കുളിക്കാനിറങ്ങിയ അനന്തു ഒഴുക്കില്പ്പെട്ടു പോകുകയായിരുന്നു. സ്കൂളിലെ പരിസ്ഥിതി ക്ലബ്ബിന്റെ സജീവ പ്രവര്ത്തകനും കലാകാരനുമായിരുന്നു. സ്കൂള് വിദ്യാര്ത്ഥികളും അധ്യാപകരും നാട്ടുകാരും ബന്ധുക്കളുമടങ്ങുന്ന ഒരു വന് ജനാവലി അനന്തുവിന് അന്ത്യോപചാരമര്പ്പിച്ചു.
